Rabbit Agility

Rabbit agility is a up and coming sport. Rabbit agility provides exercise and mental stimulation for both caged and house rabbits.

Rabbit agility is a good way to interact and to have fun with your rabbit it is also a good way to bond with your rabbit. Rabbit agility is different from rabbit hopping. Rabbit hopping is also called rabbit jump, jumping and show jumping. Rabbit agility is done off from the leash on a course of many different types of agility equipment. That your rabbit maneuvers on by going over, under, around or through.

The different equipment for the obstacles for the rabbit agility course are:

  • The pipe tunnel : Kids play tunnel, Large barrel or tube.
  • Chute: Plastic garbage can with the bottom removed and a sheet.
  • A - Frame : Two wooden planks or plywood braced up so the peak is around 18 " high.
  • Spread jumps : Piece of wood stacked next to each other in a row.
  • Vertical jumps : Broom handle
  • Tire jump : Hula hoop, old vacuum hose.
  • Water jumps : Broom handle with a pan of water under it.
  • Bridge : A supported plank of wood with two ramps.
  • Teeter Totter : A plank placed on a round object like a pvc pipe.
  • Pause Box :  Four  pieces of pvc pipe or dowels shaped in a square.
  • Pause Table : A box 2x 2x 6 high.
  • Weave poles : Stick dowels or pvc pipe in the ground.
There are different skill levels your rabbit will be trained in.
  • White Band - Your rabbit will learn socialization skills as well as walking on a leash. Skills for cues and targeting.
  • Yellow Band - Intro to agility obstacles. Your rabbit will learn to hop over jumps negotiate short tunnels and the A - Frame.
  • Green Band - Your rabbit will be introduced to the bridge and curved tunnels. Jump height and spread increased. Voice cues will begin to be added.
  • Blue Band - The tire jump is introduced your rabbit will learn to turn in response verbal cues. Jump height and spread continue to increase.
  • Purple Band - Reliability is stressed recall and obstacle discrimination by name. Water jumps are introduced.
  • Red Band - Off leash reliability is stressed. Complex sequencing.
Ways to tell if your rabbit will be a good agility rabbit.
  • Your rabbit comes to the front of their cage wanting attention.
  • Your rabbit loves to explore when they are out of their cage.
  • Your rabbit is energetic in their pen or out of their pen.
  • Your rabbit really likes being with you.
