
Rabbit Hopping
Rabbit hopping is a competitive sport that involves both the rabbit owner and their rabbit running the different obstacles on the course.
Horse show jumping was the main idea for
rabbit hopping and many of the first rules came from horse show jumping. Rabbit hopping started in Sweden in the 1970's and quickly spread to other parts of Europe. The sport is popular in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway and Denmark.
The sport of rabbit hopping is also growing in the United States.
The courses are different but most of the courses are jumps and the jumps are seen in the rabbit hopping arena.
The different jumps are:
- The broad jump - Two horizontal poles with a set of boards laid on the ground between them.

- The pole jump- Two horizontal poles with one more raised vertical pole between them.
- The water jump - An obstacle consisting of a small body of water usually with brushes on either side.
Training your rabbit for the sport of rabbit hopping:
- Putting your rabbit into practice involves careful work with your rabbit safety and emotional well being in mind.The training has to be positive and gentle.
- Conditioning another important part of training. That"s when you slowly build your rabbit up to the point where they have the physical agility and endurance to run a rabbit hopping course.
Rules of rabbit hopping:
- Any rabbit over the age of four months can compete.
- The rabbit must wear a harness and a leash during the rabbit hopping competition.
- The handler must give their rabbit enough room to move around the jumps. so that they can jump freely through the course.
- Memorize the course in advance walking through the course. Several times will help you remember the order of the obstacles when it's time to do the run.
Rabbit hopping is a competitive sport that is becoming very popular all over the world. There are different jumps that is involved with rabbit hopping competition. Like the broad jump, the pole jump and the water jump. You have to train your rabbit and to condition your rabbit.
